Abstract
The interest in investigating the social dynamics in the public spaces of the historic center of Oaxaca, Mexico, revealed the ways in which subjects relate to urban objects. The hypothesis focused on how the democratic occupation is simulated in the city. The choice of a polygon made the diagnosis possible. The urban decoding in the study area revealed the modes of occupation of the public surface. These are agreements, legal and illegal, of territorial appropriation. So, the actors reproduce the empowerment, negotiation and dispute over square meters of the city.
