Abstract
One of the problems related to health in our western societies is de obesity and the overweight and there are different types of diets and programs about the loss of weight. One of them is the usage of diets of very low calorie value (VLCD, Very Low Calorie Diet) very useful for reducing the fat weight maintaining the fat bulk mass lean in a sure way, easy to apply, fast, without relapses and economically accessible. The target of this study was to observe the experienced changes in the body composition from a group of 20 women submitted on a diet VLCD for the initial phases of the program, named active phase. Everyone followed the same models of diet, dividing the active phase into three sub phases, in which the reduction of fats and carbohydrates in the diet is the highest, maintaining a suitable intake quantity of proteins of high biological value. Anthropometric and body composition data were collected at first of the program and when each one of the phases was finished. The pursuit of this type of diet (VLCD) in our proof led to a loss of weigh, being evident its reduction of BMI (Body Mass Index), like a reduction of fat weigh and its percentage, associated with a smaller perimeter in hip and waist. The lean mass was reduced; however, its percentage was increased. All the parameters given before worked out significant along all research. In this sense we can say that the VLCD diet is an useful method for population whose aim is the loss of weight related to the fat mass and where the lean mass is weakly affected.
